North-Rhine Westphalia - 60 Years of Architecture and the Art of Engineering

60 years North-Rhine Westphalia – a reason to celebrate but, at the same time, an occasion to risk a critical depiction of the “state of the art” of the federal state itself, its architecture and its art of civil engineering – a new “land survey”.

Therefore, the M:AI Museum of Architecture and the Art of Engineering dedicates a comprehensive publication to the building and construction since 1945, which will introduce to exponent accomplishments in architecture and engineering as well as revive lost projects or revalue them.

In six chapters important symbolic and leading buildings of each decade will be presented and commented by main topics from the fields of town- and landscape planning. Renowned authors develop an atmospheric portrait of each decade, in which architecture and the art of civil engineering have been planned, built, converted, destroyed or conserved. High quality art photography by young well-known artists shows their own imagery, which will expose the unique and reveal the ordinary and banal.

With a foreword by the Premier of NRW Jürgen Rüttgers as well as essays by von Niels Gutschow, Brigitte Franzen, Karl Kleineberg, Stefan Kunzmann, Franz Pesch, Thorsten Scheer, Burghard Spinnen, Wolfgang Roters, Carsten Ruhl, Dietmar Steiner, Kunibert Wachten, Oliver Wittke and others.
